#10: Make Footage Look Like Aged Film

Old Film Look for Flag
The CGM Aged Film LE plugin is a free plugin from CGM-Online. It gives you the ability to add all those old film effects such as scratches, flickering, sepia, etc. This is perfect if you are trying to make something you shot look like old archive footage.

Installation

  1. Quit Final Cut Pro.
  2. Download the free Old Film plugin here.
  3. Navigate to:
    1. Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Final Cut Pro System Support > Plugins
  4. Open the .zip file you downloaded and the folder contained in it.
  5. Drag the file "f CGM Film LE" to the plugin folder.
  6. Start Final Cut Pro.
  7. Pick a clip you want to apply the effect to.
  8. Effects > Video Filters > CGM DVE's > CGM Aged Film LE.
  9. Adjust filter settings like normal.

Film Controls

Usage
To give your video an appearance of aged film, start with the preset “Aged Film”. Change the slider “Variation” to get different results. All above sections and sliders are active.

To give your video an appearance of modern, clean film, select the preset “Film (Automatic Settings)”. In this mode, the Stripes and Trapped Hair are deactivated and the Tint is set automatically. The section “Grain” is adjustable.
