This is a list of trainings available to schools and teachers. When we are supporting a particular student the trainings are modified with that student in mind and the supports that particular student needs. For information regarding trainings contact Holly Sutherland.
This training will give an overview of Autism Spectrum Disorders such as: Autistic Disorder, Asperger’s Disorder, and Pervasive Development Disorder. It will give ideas of types of supports can be used.
This training provides information about Asperger’s Syndrome. The training offers supports and accommodations that have been shown to help students with this syndrome succeed better in school.
This training talks about High Functioning Autism, characteristics, behaviors and how it differs from Asperger’s Syndrome. The training also goes over supports and accommodations for students with HFA.
This training will give an overview of common characteristics found in students with Autistic Disorder. It also covers the DSM IV definition and the Department of Educations definition of Autism. The training provides information about supports, accommodations and modifications.
The Facilitator of the Gifted Education Program assists in the identification and evaluation of students referred to the Gifted Education Program and provides add-on endorsement classes for teachers. Additionally, the facilitator collaborates with state, region, district personnel and all stakeholders on policies and best practices to ensure effectiveness of the program.
State guidelines require that gifted education teachers meet professional gifted endorsement requirements while working in gifted education.
Schools may call the District Office/Gifted Education Program to request an in-service for their school. Teachers are encouraged to participate in county in-service professional development trainings that will enhance their understanding of working with all students.
Most of the FDLRS Professional Opportunities will take place at the Bartow Airbase. Please check the flier carefully for specific locations.
Training Available Upon Request:
All classes will discuss the integration of technology with effective instructional strategies. Direct instruction and hands on experience will be given during all technology classes. This will be followed by individual projects and/or a skills check. A follow-up assignment is required from ALL participants. ALL training will be held at the FDLRS Technology Lab at the Bartow Airbase. All FDLRS classes count towards Polk County Tech certification. Participants are asked to bring a snack to share.
