Educators from Hardee, Highlands and Polk County were invited to learn about innovative classroom program ideas during the 2009 Teacher to Teacher/School to School Connection IDEA Expo. Held on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at Nora Mayo Hall in Winter Haven, 70+ teachers shared winning classroom ideas that enhanced learning for students in the Central Florida area. The Expo, held each year, is open to PreK-8th grade educational stakeholders to drop in between 3:30-6:30 pm. The admission is free, refreshments are served and door prizes awarded. Vendors from area businesses were also present to highlight perks for educators. The event is held each year by the Polk Education Foundation with partnerships with the Hardee and Highlands Education Foundations.
All classrooms and schools can benefit from additional funding and the Expo makes it possible for teachers in grades PreK-8 to apply for Adapter Grants which provide the supply money to replicate a program exhibited at the Expo. Should a teacher have an innovative idea of their own and wish to apply for a developer grant, they could be awarded as much as $600 for a classroom grant or $1,000 for a School grant, if chosen. The Developer grant deadline is March 13, 2009 for classroom/school grants.
