Information for:
Before DATA DAY
Part 1
- Between August 17th and August 28th, Principals will hold a meeting to present their 2008-09 School Grade and AYP data to the faculty.
- You may use the PowerPoint and script that has been added to each individual school folder in Outlook>Public Folders>Assessment, Accountability & Evaluation> 2009 Data Day folder to facilitate the presentation. (If necessary, you can review the NOTES for each PowerPoint slide on the Notes View before you present.)
- Before you start be sure you have copies of your:
- School Report Card (labeled as “3 column RC”)
- AYP Report (Page 2)
- School Grade (labeled as “Multi-year School Grade”)
- You can either display these reports on a projector to cut costs or make hard copies for your faculty.
- The PowerPoint includes three data activities that will allow faculty to determine:
- School-wide success and difficulties
- AYP Sub-group proficiencies
Part II
By September 18th, teachers should meet at least one time in small groups by one of the following:
- grade
- department
- discipline
- team
These small group meetings are called professional learning communities (PLCs) because they are meant to be communities of professionals caring for and working to improve student learning together, by engaging in continuous collective learning.
At the PLC, teachers discuss 2008-09 results by Grade/Subject area.
- Teachers will look at trend data from the past 3 to 5 years and use that information to identify weak areas, if there are any.
- Guide Questions are provided in Outlook>public folders>Assessment, Accountability and Evaluation>2009 Data Day> Guide Questions Data Year Part II.
Data may be analyzed in many ways:
- One- or two-year analysis – the most basic analysis of current performance data.
- Trend analysis - analysis of longitudinal data over 3-5 years can uncover trends that a one- or two-year review cannot provide.
- Drilling down – moves from summary information to the detailed data that created it.
- Triangulation – collects and analyzes data from multiple sources in addition to student achievement data to build support for conclusions (e.g., attendance, discipline, etc)

During Data Day on Monday, September 21
- Teachers will analyze their current year (2009-10) students’ data and plan accordingly, based on students’ needs for the upcoming year. Detailed information will be forthcoming.
After Data Day - from October 2009 to May 2010
- The expectation is to have data related PLCs to discuss student progress on an on-going basis. Guidance will be provided.

School Improvement Planning and Reporting
The Assessment, Accountability, and Evaluation office acts as district liaison for Florida's System of School Improvement and Accountability, coordinates the School Improvement Plan process, and coordinates school and district reporting, including status of schools on state standards and critically low school criteria.
School Advisory Council
The AAE office also provides resources to schools who are creating or already have School Advisory Councils. SAC's assist in decision making and approval of expenditures of District Lottery Funds and School Recognition Funds, as well as review the School Budget, help determine the School Improvement Plan, help others understand the School Improvement Plan, support the School Improvement Plan Implementation, evaluate the School Improvement Plan, and help make the school the best it can be.
