Polk County's After-School Learning Adventures program is supported by a 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) grant from the Florida Department of Education. The School Board of Polk County has been successful in obtaining three 21st CCLC grants since 2002. These grants offer a wide array of after-school opportunities for students and their families throughout Polk County.
Each community learning center offers academic, artistic and cultural enrichment opportunities for students and their families when school is not in session (before school, after school, or summer session).
To assist students in becoming productive citizens in our communities by providing tutoring, mentoring, enrichment, and fitness opportunities after-school.

Mi Casa Su Casa (My House, Your House) and Building Bridges are parts of the 21st Century Learning Centers Program . The name Mi Casa Su Casa refers to seven after-school sites funded by Polk's first two 21st CCLC grants. Building Bridges includes seven additional sites funded through a third 21st CCLC grant received by Polk County Public Schools.
Our schools offer tutoring for reading and mathematics. We also offer a variety of special interest clubs (clubs may differ from school to school) and physical education classes. Along with academics, clubs and physical education, a daily snack and drink is provided to each of the students in the program.
Our schools also offer several services to adults in the community. Some of the schools offer GED classes, evening health/ fitness classes, computer classes, and a citizenship class. Please contact the Mi Casa Su Casa or Building Bridges school nearest you for the specific services provided at each site.
The 21st CCLC grant is for a five-year period. The first two years are fully funded by the Florida Department of Education. In year three, funds diminish to 80%, year four 60% and year five 40%. As the grant funds begin to decline, volunteers, business and community support are needed in order to continue offering after-school and summer programs to students and their families. We are currently in year three with 80% funding from the grant.
Includes after-school tutoring, fitness, filed trips, transportation and other enrichment opportunities such as: Tae Kwon Do, Mad Science, Red Cross, Baby Sitting Training, Boy & Girl Scouts, etc.
Enables a teacher to work 10 hours per week in the after-school program.
