PODs set up across Polk County with food and water

UPDATE 9/17/17 - With electrical power restored to almost all of Polk County, Points of Distribution (POD) for water and MREs will close at the end of the day, or when their supplies run out, on Sunday, September 17.

FEMA Distributing Food and Water on Sept. 15

FEMA will be distributing food and water at Church of the Resurrection at 3720 Old Highway 37 in Lakeland from noon to 3 p.m. on Sept. 15.


School and District Office Reopening

The reopening of school has been delayed due to continued power outages and work to repair schools following Hurricane Irma.

Public schools in Polk County will now reopen for students on Tuesday, Sept. 19.

Buses are also expected to resume operations on Tuesday, Sept. 19. Please check your school’s website to see if there have been any changes to sports schedules or other activities.

Again, public schools in Polk County are scheduled to reopen for students on Sept. 19.

Please be advised that this decision to reopen is not binding upon charter and private schools. Those schools should be contacted directly for more information.

Monday, Sept. 18, will be a teacher work day and district offices will be open.

We would like to thank our students, teachers, employees and their families for their patience and understanding over the past several days as we addressed the severe weather conditions of Hurricane Irma and allowed some of our schools to serve as shelters. Thank you.

School Shelters

Polk County will open additional Shelters Saturday: Posted Friday, September 8 at 3:00PM.

Event Updates

Sports:

Junior varsity football games have been moved from Thursday to Wednesday. Varsity football games have been moved from Friday to Thursday. All football games will still take place at their originally scheduled times and venues.

All other sporting events (golf, cross country, volleyball and swimming) scheduled for Friday or Saturday have been postponed, and will be rescheduled for a later date. Please contact your school for updates.


ACT Testing:

Saturday ACT testing (9/9/2017) has been canceled at the Polk County high schools that serve as ACT testing centers (AHS, FMMHS, GJHS, HCHS, KHS, LGHS, LHS, LWHS, RCHS, WHHS). Each testing center will reschedule with ACT, and the registered testers will be notified of the changes by ACT. Student and parents with questions about their test centers can call Customer Care at 319.337.1270.


Best of Polk AP Studio Exhibition at Harrison:

The Best of Polk AP Studio Exhibition at Harrison has been rescheduled for Wednesday, September 20th at 6 p.m.


District 15, Florida, Military Service Academy Information Day:

From Congressman Dennis Ross, the Academy Information Day scheduled for Saturday, September 9 has been canceled and will be rescheduled.


Polk Museum of Art VSA Reception and Awards Ceremony:

The Polk Museum of Art VSA Reception and Awards Ceremony has been rescheduled for September 16th at 11 a.m.


Race 4 Rewards:

Auburndale Speedway's racing this weekend will be canceled. Currently, the Race 4 Rewards promotion (partnership with Auburndale High, Tenoroc High and Winter Haven High) scheduled for Saturday, September 9 will be rescheduled for next Saturday, September 16. More details will be announced as they become available.


Strategic Planning Retreat:

The Strategic Planning Retreat scheduled for Tuesday, September 12 has been canceled and will be rescheduled as soon as possible.
