Polk County Public Schools Presents Nominees for Teacher of the Year, School-Related Employee of the Year

January 6, 2017

Polk County Public Schools is proud to announce the nominees for Polk County’s Teacher of the Year and School-Related Employee of the Year.

More than 200 school district employees have been named Teacher of the Year and School-Related Employee of the Year at their respective schools.

They are now candidates for Polk County’s Teacher of the Year and School-Related Employee of the Year. The winners will be revealed at a ceremony on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017 at The Lakeland Center Exhibit Hall, 701 West Lime Street, Lakeland.

The award for top teacher celebrates Polk County Public Schools’ educators for their dedication to their students and passion for teaching.

The school-related employee award honors school staff members who provide outstanding service in a variety of support roles, such as paraeducators, secretaries, food service, custodial, transportation and other responsibilities.

At the ceremony, the two winners will be announced among 14 finalists (seven finalists for Teacher of the Year and seven finalists for the School-Related Employee). The seven finalists for each category include one representative from each of the school board’s seven districts across the county.

Finalists and winners receive cash and other prizes from event sponsors.

Community members from local organizations and businesses as well as past finalists and winners judge nominee applications. Judges do not know nominees’ identity or the school where they work. Teacher of the Year and School-Related nominees complete an application with categories that include leadership and professional development activities, community and school involvement and teaching style.

Combined, this year’s Teacher of the Year and School-Related nominees have 2,439 years of experience. The most experienced Teacher of the Year nominee has 32 years of experience. The most experienced School-Related nominee has 37 years of experience.

This year’s invitation-only event will be replayed at a later date on Polk County School Board Television (Bright House Networks Channel 642, Comcast Channel 7, Verizon FiOS Channel 45).
