Celebrate Family Engagement Month - November 2016

During the month of November, Polk County Public Schools will take part in the statewide observance of Family Engagement in Education Month. The event is an initiative from the Florida Department of Education which celebrates the important role parents and families play in their children's education. When schools work together with families to support learning, children are more motivated to succeed-not just in school, but throughout life.

Research shows that regardless of family income or background, students with involved parents and families are more likely to have the following:

  • Higher grades, test scores and graduation rates
  • Better school attendance
  • Increased motivation and self-esteem
  • Lower rates of suspension
  • Decreased use of drugs and alcohol
  • Fewer instances of violent behavior

We hope you will encourage parents and families to get involved, stay informed and continue to make their children’s education a top priority.
