The top high school seniors from Polk County Public Schools will take center stage on Monday, May 2, 2016 during the 2nd annual Superintendent’s Scholars Awards.
The ceremony will recognize 809 seniors for their outstanding educational achievements; Superintendent’s Scholars include graduating seniors who have earned a 3.8 GPA or higher by their seventh semester.
Each student will have an opportunity to introduce themselves, announce their college or career plans, and receive a medallion as a symbol of their accomplishment to be worn at graduation later this year.
“These students have worked tirelessly to maintain their high academic standing,” said Superintendent Jacqueline M. Byrd. “I am excited to take part in recognizing them for their achievements, and I look forward to hearing the diversity of their post-graduation goals.”
The ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. in The Lakeland Center’s Youkey Theatre, 701 W. Lime St., Lakeland.
The event is not open to the general public due to limited seating. Members of the news media are invited to attend.
