Lakeland Mayor Gow Fields Reads to Students at Community Read Aloud Day

Lakeland Mayor Gow Fields and various community members including local business owners and veterans read to students at Kathleen Elementary during the annual Community Read Aloud Day on Tuesday, November 13. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade interviewed several of the readers for a video project that will be submitted to Polk County School Board’s Instructional Television Competition. The interview questions were related to the importance of voting. Community readers complimented the classes for attentiveness and were impressed with the questions the students posed about the stories read and the readers’ careers.

Of the event Principal Lana Tatom stated, “This is my favorite week of the year! I am so thankful for our community for supporting our student’s education, for our students who are so eager to learn, for our parents who come to our school events, and for our dedicated staff members that keep our students engaged in learning.”
