More ways to keep up with the latest news from Polk County Public Schools:
The Blue Ribbon Schools program selected seven Florida public schools as 2012 national award winners. Lincoln Avenue Academy is among the seven schools chosen for the honor. This year, only 219 public schools nationwide were selected to be honored during the annual award ceremony, scheduled to take place on Monday, November 12 in Washington, D.C.
To be eligible for the national award, schools must be ranked among the highest in their state or have demonstrated dramatic gains in overall student achievement in both reading and mathematics. The program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools in one of two performance categories.
Of this amazing accomplishment, Lincoln Avenue Academy Principal Evelyn Hollen says, “We are elated that Lincoln Avenue Academy has been awarded a National Blue Ribbon School designation by the United States Department of Education, and been recognized as one of the state’s top elementary schools. I am proud of the staff, parents and community that work together for the benefit of each of our students to make sure they receive the best education possible. Lincoln Avenue Academy uses our original STEM curriculum developed by our staff following the research based strategies. This curriculum has become a model of this approach state and nationwide. “
Lincoln Avenue Academy is in the “Exemplary High Performing” category. Schools recognized in this category must be among their state’s highest performing schools, as measured by state assessments or national tests.
Since 1982, the U.S. Department of Education's National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has honored America's most successful public and private elementary, middle, and high schools.
