Graduation Workshop, Public Hearing, College Scholarship Workshop in Spanish

Graduation And Career Workshop For Parents Of Special Needs Students

The Exception Student Education Department of the Polk Public Schools is having a free workshop for parents and guardians of students with special needs or disabilities.

The workshop will have information about the various graduation and diploma options and opportunities beyond graduation including employment, training and further education.

The workshop will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the school district’s Exceptional Student Education office building at the Bartow Municipal Airport business complex. The building is on 2nd Street in the airport, off U.S. Highway 17.

Public Hearing

A public hearing will be held during the Tuesday, November 18 school board hearing to consider a change in school board policy.

The public hearing will begin no earlier than 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 18 in the auditorium of the school district administrative office, 1915 South Floral Avenue, Bartow.

The proposed policy change would affect the area of school board operations. A copy of the proposed policy is available by contacting the Legal Services Department at (863) 534-0773.

Spanish-Language Workshop About Colleges, Scholarships

The English for Speakers of Other Languages Department (ESOL) of the Polk Public Schools is holding a Spanish-language workshop for all parents and students about college applications and scholarship opportunities. The “Path to Scholarships Workshop” will be held in Spanish on Saturday, December 6, 2008, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Jim Miles Professional Development Center, 5204 U.S. Highway 98 South, Lakeland. There is no cost to attend.

The workshop will include college and scholarship information and information about assistance available to attend a college or university.

The workshop presenter will be June McBride, educator and author and founder of the Outreach Youth Empowerment organization.

Taller En Español Sobre Universidades Y Becas
