The school board will meet in a hearing with the Polk Education Association immediately following the previously announced 1:30 p.m. school board meeting of Tuesday, November 17. The artwork of Polk middle school students will be featured at the Polk Museum of Art from November 24 to January 3. The title of the show is “Art Out Loud: Middle Schools Exhibition.” The Polk Museum of Art is located at 800 East Palmetto St., Lakeland. The public is invited to a Tuesday, December 1 sales tax oversight committee meeting held at the school district administrative office , 1915 South Floral Avenue, Bartow. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in the facilities building of the district administrative office. The sales tax oversight committee, composed of community members, was formed by the school district after voters approved a 2003 referendum authorizing an additional 1/2-cent sales tax for school construction. Polk Life & Learning, a public school in Bartow serving special needs students throughout Polk County, holds its 21st Annual Country Store and Craft Sale fundraiser on Thursday, December 3, Friday, December 4 and Saturday, December 5.
The public is invited and the event includes a rummage sale, plant sale, arts and crafts, a chicken dinner and silent auction. The event is noon to 4 p.m on December 3 and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on December 4. The chicken dinner costs $5 and is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, December 4 and includes baked beans, cole slaw and Texas toast. Drinks and desserts are extra. Take out is available. The rummage sale is the only Saturday event and begins at 8 a.m. on December 5. The silent auction includes restaurant certificates, theme park passes and Florida sports teams events.
