Looking for a respite and diversion from network news coverage and political advertising on Election Day?
The Polk Public Schools’ mock presidential election will be broadcast live on the school district’s cable television channels on Election Day, Tuesday, November 4, 2008.
The school district has accurately chosen the winning presidential ticket in the last three elections--1996, 2000 and 2004.
The school district’s mock election program will air from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Election Day on Bright House Networks channel 614, Comcast Cable channel 26 and Verizon FIOS channel 45. The school district’s three cable channels contain no advertising. PCSBtv broadcasts to 120,000 households in Polk County.
Each school has received a packet of mock election information and materials including presidential ballots. Elementary, middle and high schools will tally their totals and break down the results according to student and staff totals. Staff totals will include votes from faculty, administration, foodservice, maintenance and other support personnel The results will be sent to the school district’s “Election Headquarters” at Lakeland’s Jim Miles Professional Development Center where the television broadcast will originate hosted by studio anchors.
The broadcast will include live remotes from schools with student reporters and election-theme decorated sets.
