Five Polk schools are seeking the public’s vote in a contest titled “Why Our School Deserves A Grant” sponsored by school district partner Bright House Networks.
The five Polk schools are among nine finalists for a $4,000 grant and have produced three-minute videos airing on Bright House Networks channel 342, Bay News 9 On Demand. The videos can be seen in the “School Resources” genre and “School Grant Contest” category. Viewers can vote for their favorite video at baynews9.com/Contest.html from Tuesday, October 14 to Friday, October 24. The two schools with the most votes receive $4,000 each.
The videos explain how the schools will use the grant money for learning projects. The videos require the schools to demonstrate how they will use the grant money to further school achievement and how many students will benefit from the grant and learning projects.
Polk schools seeking the public’s vote in the contest are listed with their school location and with the title of their video:
• Blake Academy (Lakeland): “Steel Drum Ensemble”
• Boone Middle (Haines City): “Science Gone Wild”
• Discovery Academy(Lake Alfred): “U-Bid! Read, Write & Learn Silent Reading Auction”
• Lawton Chiles Middle Academy (Lakeland): “Autonomous Robots”
• Polk Life and Learning Center (Bartow): “Let’s Walk Across America”
Along with the five Polk schools, other finalists are two schools from Pinellas County and one school each from Hillsborough and Pasco counties.
