Remembering the Heroes of 9-11

Today, Americans will take time to remember those who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks on September 11. On that day in 2001, 19 terrorists hijacked four passenger jets with the intention of coordinated strikes on New York City and Washington, D.C. Nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks.

Over the weekend, members of Winter Haven High’s Army JROTC Color Guard participated in third annual Honoring Our Heroes, Remember the Day event held at Central Park in downtown Winter Haven. The event was held to honor first responders who died in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and to remember the military who gave their lives.

What some local schools are doing to honor the September 11th attacks:

Winter Haven High
This morning, Winter Haven High’s Army JROTC Color Guard participated in a commemorative event held at Cypress Creek Village at 8 a.m.

Summerlin Academy
Cadets at Summerlin Academy reflected on the heroes of September 11th during a ceremony held this morning. The 7 a.m. ceremony was held to recognize the sacrifices of the day’s heroes.

Fort Meade Middle-Senior
Students have purchased 9-11 Never Forget t-shirts and are going out into the community to do a good deed.
