The following are important events concerning a rezoning in anticipation of Spessard L. Holland Elementary opening in Bartow in August 2009. Some students attending the following schools may be affected by a proposed rezone: Floral Avenue Elementary (Bartow), Highland City Elementary, James E. Stephens Elementary (Bartow) and Valleyview Elementary (Lakeland). The proposed zones are available by going to the school district’s home page, http://www.polk-fl.net and clicking the link titled “Proposed Zones For Spessard Holland.” Zoning information is also available by calling (863) 519-8298.
A meeting will be held for parents, students and community members to offer input and comment to the school board and staff regarding the proposed zones. The meeting will be held Thursday, September 25, 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Bartow High, 1270 South Broadway Avenue, Bartow.
A public hearing on the proposed zones will be held and the public hearing is the final opportunity for parents, students and community members to offer public input and comment before the school board finalizes the attendance zones through a vote. The public hearing will be held during the school board meeting of Tuesday, October 28 to be held in the auditorium of Bartow High, 1270 South Broadway Avenue. The public hearing will begin no earlier than 5:30 p.m.
