Presentation To Parents About Autism; Surplus Books Available To Public

Presentation To Parents, Guardians About Autism

Seven organizations have joined together to bring an expert to speak to parents and guardians about autism. James Williams, a 21-year-old from Illinois with autism and author of two books will present to parents from 9:30 to 11 a.m., Monday, September 13 in the Cypress Room of the Jim Miles Professional Development Center, 5204 U.S. Highway 98 South, Lakeland. The title of Williams’ presentation to parents and guardians is “Are You There, World? It’s Me, Autism.” There is no charge to attend.

Williams has presented all over the country about his experiences as an autistic person in an effort to help families better understand how to help children with autism. The titles of the books he has authored or co-authored are “Out To Get Jack” and “The Self Help Guide For Special Kids And Their Parents.” Click here for further information on Williams.

Organizations coordinating bringing Williams to the local area are the Exceptional Student Education Department of the Polk Public Schools, the Family Care Council, the Florida Diagnostic Learning Resources System (FDLRS), Infants and Young Children (IYC), Parental Education and Encouragement in Young Children Everywhere (PEACE) and the TiAnViCa Riding Academy.

Surplus Books Available To Public

The Polk Public Schools are offering outdated, surplus textbooks and library books to the public for no charge. The books will be displayed and available on Thursday, September 16 and Friday, September 17, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both days, at the school district’s surplus book warehouse, 5900 Yates Road, Lakeland.
