College Fair, College And Postsecondary Planning Seminars

College Fair

The Polk School District College Fair is Tuesday, September 7, 2010, 6 to 8 p.m. at Florida Southern College’s Jenkins Field House, 111 Lake Hollingsworth Drive, Lakeland.

Public and private colleges and universities from Florida and out-of-state will participate. Scheduled to attend include Harvard University, Vanderbilt University, Mercer University, Southern Methodist University and Michigan State University. Students and parents from public, private, charter and home schools are invited to attend and speak with college and university representatives about programs of study, admission, housing, scholarships, financial assistance and other issues. There is no charge to attend.

College, Postsecondary Planning Seminars

College and postsecondary planning seminars are scheduled for area high schools in September. Students and parents of public, private, charter and home schools, ninth through twelfth grades, are invited to the seminars at any of the locations. There is no charge to attend.

Each seminar includes the following topics: curriculum required for college admission, the admissions process, Bright Futures updates, the scholarship search, the FACTS.org online student advising system in Florida, college essays, interviews, campus visits and a financial assistance overview.

The seminar schedule:

  • Monday, September 13, 7 p.m., Harrison Arts Center theatre, 750 Hollingsworth Road, Lakeland.
  • Tuesday, September 14, 7 p.m., Winter Haven High auditorium, 600 Sixth St., SE.
  • Thursday, September 16, 6:30 p.m., Kathleen High library media center, 2600 Crutchfield Road, Lakeland.
  • Tuesday, September 21, 6:30 p.m., Mulberry High auditorium, Northeast Fourth Circle.
  • Thursday, September 23, 7 p.m., George Jenkins High auditorium, 6000 Lakeland Highlands Road, Lakeland.
  • Monday, September 27, 7 p.m., Bartow High auditorium, 1270 South Broadway.
  • Tuesday, September 28, 7 p.m. Tenoroc High auditorium, 4905 Saddle Creek Road, Lakeland.
  • Thursday, September 30, 7 p.m., Haines City High auditorium, 2800 Hornet Dr., Haines City.
