School District And Mental Health Partners Team Up With Lakeland Flying Tigers

August 16, 2010

The Psychological Services Department of the Polk Public Schools partnered with eight other mental health agencies and the Lakeland Flying Tigers in a recent event.

Psychological Services participated in the “Mental Health Matters” program that was held at a recent Flying Tigers baseball game at Lakeland’s Marchant Stadium.

Psychological Services, a division within the school district’s Student Services Department, had a booth at the stadium that included information about the mental health services provided in the schools. Their booth included a “Psychology Wheel Of Fortune” game and giveaways.

Student Services staff also went onto the Marchant Stadium field and made a brief presentation to the crowd about their work in schools. Student Services provides school psychologists, social workers, counselors and nurses who can assist students. Each school in Polk County has a Student Services team that works with students.

Joining the Polk Public Schools in the Mental Health Matters event was the Central Florida chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, InnerAct Alliance, Lakeland Regional Medical Center’s Mental Health/Addiction Recovery Center, Mental Health First Aid USA, National Alliance for Mental Illness – Polk County, the Peace River Center, Tri-County Human Services and Winter Haven Hospital’s Center for Behavioral Health.

The Lakeland Flying Tigers are a minor league affiliate of Major League Baseball’s Detroit Tigers that plays its Florida State League home games in Lakeland’s Marchant Stadium from April through August.
