Polk County Public Schools is one of 19 districts recognized by the Florida Coordinator School Health Partnership (FLCSHP) as a Florida Healthy School District. Polk County is a Silver Level Award Winner.

The Florida Healthy School Districts are districts that have made a high level commitment to meeting the health needs of students and staff in order to remove barriers to learning and maximize district resources.

A Florida Healthy School District Tool is used to assess each district. District infrastructure, practices, programs and policy are identified and measured in hopes the information will help assist districts in achieving the highest standards. Strengths listed for Polk County included: Health Services, Healthy School Environment, Health Promotion for Staff, and Family/Community Involvement.

The Coordinated School Health Partnership and the Florida Action for Healthy Kids sponsor the award.
