Polk County Public Schools
Students from ten Polk schools won awards in competitive events at the 2007-2008 Technology Student Association state conference held in Orlando. The Technology Student Association offers students opportunities to learn about technology, innovation, design and engineering. Students apply and integrate science, technology, engineering and mathematics concepts through academic activities, competitive events and related programs. Competitive events at the state conference included graphic design challenge, engineering and electrical applications.
Lake Region High student Ricky Maldonado placed first or second in four competitive events at the state conference. These events were animatronics, cyberspace pursuit, technical research and report writing and film.
Anthony Guevara, another Lake Region High student, placed first or second in three competitive events at the state conference. These events were animatronics, cyberspace pursuit and digital video editing.
Three Polk students were also elected as state TSA officers for the 2008-2009 school year.
Suzanne Richardson, a senior at Kathleen High in 2008-2009, is the state vice president.
Shivi Kumar, a junior at Lake Region High in 2008-2009, is the state reporter.
Mauricio Mirando, a senior at Bartow High in 2008-2009, is the state sergeant at arms.
