Applications Available For Free And Reduced Price School Meals

August 4, 2008

Applications will be available August 8 at each Polk County public school for the 2008-2009 free and reduced price meal program.

Polk public schools, under the National School Lunch and Breakfast program, serves free and reduced price meals for needy children unable to pay the full price for meals. Households must complete one application for all students in the household. Criteria for program eligibility includes household size and income. Children of families that receive food stamps or TANF, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, are also eligible.

There are specialized application instructions for foster children, families of homeless and migrant children and children in other circumstances. Families with children in these and other circumstances should consult with the individual schools or the Foodservice Department about how to apply. Florida Income Eligibility Guidelines for Free and Reduced Price Meals are listed below. These are effective from July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009.

The total income before taxes, social security, health benefits, union dues, or other deductions must be reported.
