Six schools represented Polk at the 2010 State JROTC Army Drill Meet. The event was held at Lakeland’s George Jenkins High and was hosted by Jenkins’ Eagle Battalion under the direction of JROTC instructor Jeff Elson. More than 80 schools from all over the state competed and displayed their talents in precision drill.
George Jenkins, Haines City High, Lakeland’s Lake Gibson High, Mulberry High, Bartow’s Summerlin Academy and Davenport’s Ridge Community High all participated at the state event.
George Jenkins, Summerlin and Mulberry all won awards.
A team from Mulberry was state champs in the female unarmed squad regulation event. Team members included Cara Barley, Ismary Figueroa, Vannia Lucero, Seandriana McLendon and Rachel Stevens. Stevens was also state champ in an event named unarmed knockout drill. In total, Mulberry won 11 awards or top ten places in team and individual competitions.
Mulberry JROTC members contributing to the school winning the awards or top ten places include Amber Ashley, Latonya Ashley, Shania Baldwin, Cara Barley, Jessica Barron, Carlos Bolanos, Joshua Brannen, Makayla Daniels, Stephanie Del Rio, Elizabeth Dominguez, Robert Faison, Ismary Figueroa, Kayla Filyaw, Henry Fuentes, Yvette Gomez, Emilio Gonzalez, Vannia Lucero, Seandriana Justin McKinney, McLendon, Sheryle Negron, Joseline Pina, Perla Puente, Rosa Amairani Rascon, Jazmin Salmeron, Rachel Stevens, Kaelyn Thompson, Barbara Villafuerte and Brandalyne Olivetti.
Summerlin’s Madison Nickell won a fourth place in the female individual armed exhibition. Nickell teamed with Summerlin classmate Faith Raymond to win second in the state in the female dual armed exhibition. In team competitions, Summerlin won fourth place awards in the both the armed squad exhibition and armed platoon exhibition.

George Jenkins won sixth in the state in the armed squad exhibition. Team members of this squad included Chris Cordero, Luis Gil, Jevon McKay, Jason Norton, Kyle Palmer and Terrence Roberts.
