Seventeen Polk students earned awards at the at the 2007-2008 Florida FFA Ornamental Horticulture Demonstration Career Development Event held in Gainesville. Students winning awards are listed according to school, place won and competition category
Bartow High: Reagan Lee, sixth, production; Amber Kent and Lindsey Lunsford, eighth, consumer use.
Haines City High: Katie Mixon, third, landscaping; Leigh Ann Barthle and Jonathan Duff, fourth, artistic arrangement.
Kathleen Middle: Nicole Green and Marissa Schmick, seventh, artistic arrangement; Bailee Glawson and Skylar Hamilton, eighth, consumer use.
Kathleen High (Lakeland): Danielle Bass and Brandi Lewis, first, artistic arrangement; Chelsea Myers, first, marketing; Kasie Myers and Katlyn Walker, third, consumer use; Alica Lindley and Michael Stokes, ninth, landscaping.
Lakeland’s Kathleen High took two of the top three places in the 2007-2008 Polk County High School FFA Nursery and Landscape competition held at Lakeland’s Florida Southern College. Kathleen High’s A team won the competition while Kathleen High’s B team was third. Lakeland’s Lake Gibson High was the runner-up.
Kathleen’s championship A team was composed of Danielle Bass, Chelsea Myers, Kristin O’Berry and Tina Yale.
Lake Gibson’s runner-up team was composed of Kyle Floyd, Ashley Lewis, Jacob Williams and Joseph Williams.
Kathleen’s third-place B team was composed of Clayton Kiddey, Kelly Layton and Katlyn Walker.
Reagan Lee, a Winter Haven resident who attends the International Baccalaureate program at Bartow High, was the individual champion in the high school competition.
Lakeland’s Kathleen Middle swept the top three places in the 2007-2008 Polk County Middle School FFA Nursery and Landscape competition held at Lakeland’s Florida Southern College. Kathleen Middle A team won the championship followed by Kathleen Middle C in second and Kathleen Middle B in third. Haines City’s Boone Middle was fourth.
Kathleen Middle’s championship A team was composed of Lexus Arce, Nicole Green, Kenny Montague and Marissa Schmick.
Kathleen Middle’s runner-up C team was composed of Ary Folds, Skylar Hamilton and Natalee Moore.
Kathleen’s third-place B team was composed of Jerica Chestnut, Bailee Glawson and Ashley Meredith.
Boone Middle’s fourth place team was composed of Stephanie Harmon, Kristen McCall, Ashley Robertson and Allison Viccaro.
Skylar Hamilton of Kathleen Middle’s C team was the individual champion in the middle school competition.
