12 Graduates Volunteered 1,000 Hours Each During Their High School Careers

July 23, 2008

The following 2008 graduates of Polk County high schools were honored by the school district for accumulating at least 1,000 hours each of community service hours during their high school careers. They are listed by school with a short summary of volunteer activities or organizations where they volunteered.

George Jenkins High (Lakeland)
Acsah Abraham – Salvation Army, Teen Court, Medulla Elementary, Valleyview Elementary;
Hardam Tripathi – Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Lakeland Public Library, Teen Court;
Larry Wheatcraft—various youth sports and athletics leagues;

Harrison School For The Arts (Lakeland)
Lindsey Glover – volunteered in support roles in regional, community and school theatre productions and events;
Sarah Jorgensen – volunteered in support roles in regional, community and school theatre productions and events;
Emily Nance – summer mission work, Teen Trendsetters reading mentoring program, community theatre and scoreboard production work at Lakeland High football games;
Jordan Wheaton – Salvation Army emergency services, Polk County Youth Symphony, Imperial Symphony Orchestra, school musical productions and community service projects;
Amy Young – local missions, missionary work in Brazil, community and school theatre and dance productions;

Lake Region High (Eagle Lake)
Heidy Hartley –Woodland Wonders Animal Rehabilitation;
Stefania Lacey – Pride afterschool program, Teen Trendsetter reading mentoring program, drug prevention programs;
Tuyet Nguyen – Pride afterschool program, Habitat For Humanity, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Key Club, Bishop Moore Vietnamese Service Association were she taught English to adults and helped them with steps and processes to become United States citizens;
