Polk County Public Schools
Students from nine Polk schools won medals at the 2009-2010 state leadership conference of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America organization (FCCLA) held in Orlando. FCCLA is a national career and technical student organization in family and consumer sciences education.
FCCLA competition categories include applied technology, entrepreneurship and career investigation.

George Jenkins High: Silver Medals - Kayla Montgomery, Ambra Sanner; Bronze Medals - Ashlie Elliott, Peyton Liles.
Kathleen High: Silver Medals - Tessa Gladson, Theresa Groves; Bronze Medal - Danielle Smewing.
Kathleen Middle: Bronze Medals - Emily Anderson, Victoria Vernon.
Lake Gibson High: Gold Medals - Danielle Galipeau, Erica Schaaf; Silver Medals - Sierra Fountain, Ani Pacheco. Jessica Roberts, a sophomore at Lake Gibson High in 2010-2011, was elected at the state leadership conference as the FCCLA state vice president of finance for the 2010-2011 school year.
