Nearly 50 Students Scored Perfect Scores on Both Reading and Math State Mandated Assessments

The above chart provides a breakdown of total number of perfect scores by grade level.
During the 2011-2012 school year, 47 third through eighth graders scored perfect scores on the reading and math portions of FCAT 2.0. Of these 47 students, two also attained perfect scores on the Algebra I End-of-Course Assessment. One additional eighth grader attained perfect scores on the reading portion of FCAT 2.0 and on the Algebra I End-of-Course Assessment, bringing the total number of students who made perfect scores in both reading and math to 48.
FCAT 2.0 is by all accounts, more rigorous and complex than the test it replaced. Earlier this year, the State Board of Education raised FCAT standards making it more difficult for students to achieve a passing score.
The Algebra I End-of-Course Assessment is given to students who take Algebra I or Algebra I Honors. Ninth grade students and middle school students taking Algebra I or Algebra I Honors are required to successfully pass the Algebra I EOC exam in order to be eligible for a standard high school diploma.
Fourth graders accounted for the greatest portion of the nearly 50 students who scored the high marks. Seventh graders accounted for the least number. But from this group, two seventh grade students not only made perfect scores on the reading and math portions of the FCAT they also scored perfect scores on the Algebra I End-of-Course Assessment. One additional student did not make a perfect score on the math portion of FCAT 2.0, but achieved a perfect score on the Algebra I EOC Assessment and the reading portion of FCAT 2.0.
