The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recently named additional College-Sponsored Merit Scholarship winners. Some 2011-2012 senior winners included: Bartow IB’s Emily Lubin and Winter Haven High School’s Mackenzie Nettlow. Mackenzie Nettlow will attend Rice University in Houston, Texas where she hopes to study medicine. Emily Lubin will head to New Orleans, Louisiana to attend Tulane University. She will study law.
College-sponsored awards are renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study at the sponsor institution and provide stipends that range between $500 and $2,000 per year. College-sponsored Merit Scholarship award winners are selected by officials at each college. The amount of the annual stipend is decided by the institution. Finalists who have been accepted for admission and have listed the institution as their first choice by the required deadlines are usually given the distinction.

Steffanie Munguia (Bartow IB) –University of South Florida
Samuel Phen (Bartow IB)-University of Florida
Lindsey Ward (Bartow IB)-University of Texas at Dallas
