School Concurrency Summit, Traviss Career Center Courses In Fort Meade

School Concurrency Summit

The public is invited to a Thursday, July 9, 2009 summit on the subject of school concurrency.

The summit will include officials from county and municipal government and the Polk County Public Schools. Concurrency provides coordinated planning among county and municipal governments and the school district to ensure school capacity at the time of residential development. The summit will include a current update on school concurrency and future plans for school concurrency.

The summit will be held 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Thursday, July 9 at the Chain O’Lakes Complex, 210 Cypress Gardens Boulevard, Winter Haven. The summit will be held in the Pool Room, adjacent to the Chain O’Lakes Orange Dome.

Traviss Career Center Courses Offered in Fort Meade

Traviss Career Center offers courses daytime and nighttime courses in Fort Meade geared toward developing business and industry skills in computers and Spanish. Courses set to begin in August include Computer Systems Technology, Accounting and Conversational Spanish. Courses will be held at the site of the former Gause Riverside Academy, 1002, 6th Street Northeast, Fort Meade. There is a tuition fee but financial aid available for some courses for those who qualify.

Listed here is a summary of the Computer Systems Technology, Accounting and Conversational Spanish courses being offered in Fort Meade starting in August.

  • Computer Systems Technology, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Fridays – Installation, programming, operation, maintenance and servicing of computer systems. Preparation for Comp TIA Network + and Comp TIA A+ certification included.

  • Accounting, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Fridays – Introduction to all aspects of the office environment including application software business programs. Manual and computerized accounting, including Quickbooks Pro and Peachtree, are included in the curriculum.

  • Conversational Spanish, 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday—Course designed for managers, supervisors and customer service associates in business and industry. Designed to eliminate language barriers in the workplace by enabling English speaking individuals to communicate simply and effectively with Spanish speaking customers and employees.
