More ways to keep up with the latest news from Polk County Public Schools:

Cadet Leonardo Bermudez and Cadet Jessica Wile outshined the competition at the 2012 National High School Drill Team Competitions held in Daytona Beach the first weekend of this month. Bermudez and Wile swirled full weight M1903 Springfield rifles through the air in unison. The judges rated them for precision and technique displayed during routines. When the scores were tabulated, the team placed second in the nation in the Dual Armed Exhibition Drill.
Summerlin Academy’s drill team continues to produce winners. This is the third year in a row, teams and individuals from the school have qualified to compete in the national competitions. Summerlin Academy JROTC instructor First Sergeant Cordale Jackson says he regularly makes changes to routines in order to improve upon the team’s efforts. He believes, “Our endeavor is to never become complacent, we are competing against our self-imposed limitations, our fears and our desire to be better today than we have ever been.”
Congratulations to Cadet Bermudez and Cadet Wile!
