June FCAT Classes And Retakes, Public Hearing

June FCAT Classes And Retakes

The Polk Public Schools are offering a FCAT preparation program in June for current high school students not passing the FCAT. The priority for these classes are 2007-2008 high school seniors and juniors not passing FCAT math and/or reading.

The classes will be held Monday through Thursday, June 9 to June 24 at Auburndale High, Fort Meade Middle-Senior, George Jenkins High (Lakeland), Haines City High and Lakeland High. Tentative hours for the classes are 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and/or 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Hours will be determined based on enrollment for the classes.

Summer retakes for FCAT reading will be Wednesday, June 25. Retakes for FCAT math will be Thursday, June 26.

There is no charge to attend the classes but student transportation to the classes will not be provided.

Public Hearing

A public hearing will be held during the June 24 school board meeting to consider renewal contracts for charter schools Dale R. Fair Babson Park Elementary (Babson Park), Hillcrest Elementary (Lake Wales), Janie Howard Wilson Elementary (Lake Wales), Lake Wales High, Life Skills Center (Lakeland) and Polk Avenue Elementary (Lake Wales).

The public hearing will begin no earlier than 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24 in the auditorium of the school district administrative office, 1915 South Floral Avenue, Bartow.
