Summerlin Academy Places First in the 2012 Florida State High School Drill Competition

Students from Summerlin Academy were big winners this year when they competed in the 2012 Florida State High School Drill Competition. The competitions which took place on Saturday, April 14, 2012 were held at George Jenkins High School in Lakeland.

Florida State Drill Meet winners included the following teams and individuals:

1st place- Male Armed Squad Exhibition
1st place- Male Armed Individual Exhibition (Cadet Josh Daily)
3rd place- Female Armed Dual Exhibition (Cadets Hagood and Wodecki)
5th place- Male Armed Dual Exhibition (Cadet Hagood)
5th place- Female Armed Individual Exhibition (Cadets Wile and Bermudez)

Members of the squad include: 1st Lieutenant Daily, 1st Lieutenant Bermudez, Staff Sergeant Shawger, Sergeant First Class Pitre, Sergeant Eldridge, Sergeant First Class Freeman, 2nd Lieutenant Machinia, Sergeant First Class Romero, Captain Hartsfield

In May, the team will travel to Daytona Beach for the 2012 National High School Drill Team Championships. The National High School Drill Team Championships is considered one of the most famous Junior ROTC military drill and ceremony competitions in the world.
