The Elementary Science Fair will be held Thursday, May 1 at the Bartow Civic Center, 2250 South Floral Avenue, Bartow. More than 350 science fair projects from students in 63 elementary schools have been submitted. The public is invited to view the projects on May 1, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., at the Civic Center. There is no cost to attend. Elementary students select a topic of interest for their science fair project and determine a question about the topic that can be answered through measurable experimentation. The public is invited to the 2nd Annual Superintendent’s Fine Arts Festival to be held Saturday, May 3, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m at the Lake Mirror Amphitheater, 121 South Lake Avenue, Lakeland. There is no charge to attend the festival includes displays and exhibits of students’ visual art and performances by schools musical and performing groups. This is a family event near the Barnett Family Park playground and concessions will be available. The day culminates with a performance at 6:30 p.m. by a student all-star jazz band. The public is invited to the Elementary Music Showcase to be held Tuesday, May 6, 7 p.m. at Florida Southern College’s Branscomb Auditorium, 111 Lake Hollingsworth Drive, Lakeland. There is no charge to attend as approximately 285 music students from 50 elementary schools will perform. A free workshop on the subject of inclusion education will be held Wednesday, May 14 for parents and guardians of special needs students.
The workshop will discuss inclusion, the practice of including all students, regardless of strengths or weaknesses, in the school community. The workshop will address educating children with disabilities in the general education curriculum.
The workshop on May 14 will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at Family Fundamentals, 1021 Lakeland Hills Boulevard, Lakeland.
