The Central Florida Aerospace Academy, a career academy of Lakeland’s Kathleen High, is accepting applications for the 2009-2010 school year. Any current eighth or ninth grader in Polk County is eligible to attend the academy.
Students attending the academy will be enrolled at Kathleen High and will receive instruction at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport in avionics, pre-engineering and aerospace technologies. Bus transportation is available for students zoned for Kathleen High. Students residing outside of Kathleen High zones must provide their own transportation.
Students enrolled in the avionics track will be prepared for careers as avionic technicians. The pre-engineering and aerospace technologies track will provide technical knowledge and experience and introduce students to the aerospace environment with a focus on flight, navigation, aircraft systems and design. The academy will also offer an Air Force JROTC program.
All programs lead to a high school diploma and provide an opportunity for general and elective college credits for an associate of arts or associate of science degree. Students in the academy have access to all clubs, activities and athletics offered at Kathleen High.
