Kathleen Senior Teacher Named Central Florida AFA Polk County Teacher of the Year for His Innovative Teaching Style

April 9, 2012

Jason KarolThe Central Florida Chapter of the Air Force Association has named Kathleen Senior Teacher Jason Karol Polk County Teacher of the Year. It’s easy to see why! If asked, most would describe him as dedicated, innovative and collaborative.

Mr. Karol educates juniors and seniors at Kathleen Senior where he teaches Advanced Placement Calculus, AP Computer Science, AP Statistics and Honors Pre-Calculus. But he doesn’t just stand out because of the challenging courses he teaches. It’s his innovative teaching style that sets him apart. Mr. Karol is constantly looking for new ways to engage his students and introduce technology into his classroom. For example, he built an interactive website so students can practice math problems from home: http://www.khsclass.net/practicer/main.html

But what is most appealing about Mr. Karol is his humility. He is quick to say, “I couldn’t have accomplished this without the help of my fellow teachers. They’re constantly allowing me to make them my guinea pigs. I often test out my new ideas on them.” He also says, “I’m proud to work at Kathleen Senior. I’m surrounded by fantastic students and teachers.”

Jason Karol holds a bachelor of arts in mathematics and a master of education in secondary education. He received both degrees from the University of South Florida Tampa.

Congratulations to Mr. Karol for an outstanding job!

Each year the Central Florida Chapter gives the award to teachers throughout Central Florida who embody their mission to support and encourage the study of science and technology in the community. Mr.Karol will be competing against teachers from other counties in hopes of securing the title of Central Florida Air Force Association Central Florida Teacher of the Year.
