The public is invited to the 32nd Annual Poetry Awards to be held Tuesday, April 22, 7 p.m. at Florida Southern College’s Branscomb Auditorium, 111 Lake Hollingsworth Drive, Lakeland. There is no charge to attend and the event includes poetry readings and award presentations. Students in grades six through 12 submitted poems to be considered for awards. Traviss Career Center in Lakeland will have a day-long Open House and Career Fair on Thursday, April 24. Traviss Career Center, located at 3225 Winter Lake Road, Lakeland, offers more than 40 career, vocational and technical programs for high school and adult students. The time for the Open House on April 24 is from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and the Career Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon that day.
Traviss programs include practical nursing, legal administrative assistant, dental assisting and building construction technology.
Activities for the Open House and Career Fair include program demonstrations, tours, massages by massage therapy students, manicures by nails specialty students, health screenings by students in medical programs and exhibits and clinics put on by automotive technology students. There will also be refreshments and door prizes.
