More than 900 elementary, middle and high school students from across the state will come to Polk for the 2008 State Science And Engineering Fair. It will be held April 16 to 18 at The Lakeland Center.
The public is invited to view the science fair projects on Thursday, April 17 from 7 to 9 p.m. The public is also invited to the awards ceremony on Friday, April 18 from 7:30 to 10 p.m. There is no charge to attend the event. Students will compete in categories that include botany, chemistry, engineering, environmental science, health and medicine and physics. This is fifth time Polk has hosted the Science Fair since it was started in 1956. Florida Southern College was the site for the 1961 fair and The Lakeland Center hosted it in 1985 (venue was known as Lakeland Civic Center then), 1998 and 2002.

The public is invited to the All-County Band Concert to be held Friday, April 18, 7:30 p.m. at Florida Southern College’s Branscomb Auditorium. There is no charge to attend as middle and high school students will perform in the band concert. Information: (863) 647-4728.
Students in dance programs in eight schools will present a Dance Festival & Gala Concert on Saturday, April 19, 7 p.m. at Ridge Community High, 500 West Orchid Drive, Davenport. The artistically-based dance concert will include the disciplines of ballet, modern and tap and others.
Students in dance curriculum at the following schools will perform: Auburndale High, Davenport School of the Arts, Harrison School of the Arts (Lakeland), Hillcrest Elementary (Lake Wales), Jewett School of the Arts (Winter Haven), Rochelle School of the Arts (Lakeland), McLaughlin Middle School and Fine Arts Academy (Lake Wales) and Ridge Community High.
Tickets are $5 per person and can be bought at the door on the night of the performance. This is the first year of the All-County Dance Festival & Gala Concert.
