Traviss Business Students Win Awards At State Conference, Advance To Nationals

Five students at Lakeland’s Traviss Career Center won awards at the Business Professionals of America (BPA) State Conference held in Orlando and will compete at the BPA National Conference to be held in Anaheim, Calif. from May 5 to 9.

The five students are enrolled in Traviss’ business technology program. They are listed with their residences and competition events at the state conference. Places won at the state conference are in parentheses following the competition events. Also included is their major program of study within Traviss’ business technology department.

--Myra Bravo, Winter Haven: administrative support (second), financial math (first), fundamental word processing (first). Bravo is in Traviss’ administrative assistant program.

--Donna Miranda, Fort Meade: legal office procedures (second). Miranda is in Traviss’ legal administrative specialist program.

-- John Meyer, Mulberry: administrative support (first), information technology (second), insurance concepts (first), management/marketing/human relations (first), medical office procedures (first). Meyer is in Traviss’ medical administrative specialist program.

--Sanquinitta Sconiers-Johnson, Lakeland: administrative support (third), desktop publishing (first), federal income tax (first), fundamental spreadsheets (first). Sconiers-Johnson is in Traviss’ administrative assistant program.

--Laura Waldren, Auburndale: administrative support (fourth), basic office procedures (first), information technology (first), legal office procedures (first), management/marketing/human relations (second). Waldren is in Traviss’ legal administrative specialist program.

BPA is a leading career and technical organization for students pursuing careers in business management, office administration, information technology and other related career fields. BPA is a "co-curricular" organization that supports business and information technology educators by offering curriculum based on national standards.
