The public is invited to the semifinals and finals of the 16th Annual Polk Middle School E-Team Academic Tournament. The semifinals will be held Tuesday, March 24, 4 to 6:30 p.m and the finals will be held Wednesday, March 25, also 4 to 6:30 p.m. Both the semifinals and finals will be held at the Lakeland Center, 701 West Lime Street, Lakeland. There is no charge to attend as teams of sixth, seventh and eighth graders will represent their schools and test their knowledge of economic terms, language arts, mathematics and social studies. The public is invited to the finals of the 28th Annual Polk Fifth Grade E-Team Academic Tournament. The finals will be held Wednesday, March 25, 1 p.m. at the Lakeland Center, 701 West Lime Street, Lakeland. There is no charge to attend as fifth grade students will represent their schools and test their knowledge of economic terms, language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. Schools competed throughout the school year for the right to compete in the finals. Schools competing in the finals are Bartow Elementary Academy, Brigham Academy (Winter Haven), Lincoln Avenue Academy (Lakeland), Philip O’Brien Elementary (Lakeland), Resurrection Catholic and Valleyview Elementary (Lakeland). Lawton Chiles Middle (Lakeland), Southwest Middle (Lakeland) and Westwood Middle (Winter Haven) will represent Polk County at the state MathCounts competition to be held Friday, March 27 at the Hilton Orlando – Altamonte Springs. The three Polk schools qualified for the state event by virtue of their performance at the county MathCounts competition held February 21 at Polk Community College in Winter Haven. MathCounts is a national competition promoting middle school mathematics achievement.

The public is invited to the afternoon session of the competition. The afternoon session is 12:30 to 4:40 p.m., March 27 at the Hilton Orlando-Altamonte Springs, 350 North Lake Boulevard, Altamonte Springs. There is no cost to attend the afternoon session of the competition.
