State FFA Convention Awards

February 25, 2008

The following Polk students were recognized or won awards at the 79th annual FFA convention held in Orlando. They are listed according to school location with their event or competition category. Their award or place they finished in the state competition is listed in parentheses.

Bartow

Bartow High School: Rebecca Beam, Courtesy Corps (representative); Lacey Waters, Star Greenhand event (finalist)

Eagle Lake

Lake Region High: Josh Guy, tractor operations (third).

Frostproof

The FFA chapter at Frostproof High School received a second place award for its Harvest of Change fundraiser.

Haines City

Haines City High: team of Zeth Herndon and Michael Simpson, ornamental horticulture marketing (fourth); Jacob Gould, specialty crop production (first); team of Caitlyn Bowen, Brittney Crow and Mary Catherine Lewis, ornamental horticulture landscaping (third); team of Joseph Deese, Jacob Gould, Mary Catherine Lewis, Alyssa Oakes, Katie Peterich and Emilee Sanford, agricultural issues (second); Brittney Fuller and Mary Catherine Lewis received the state FFA Degree.

Lakeland

Kathleen High: team of Danielle Bass, Chelsea Myers, Kristin O’Berry and Tina Yale, nursery and landscape (fifth); team of Brandi Walker and Katlyn Walker, ornamental horticulture consumer use (third); Chelsea Myers, ornamental horticulture production(first).

Kathleen Middle: team of Shelby Freeman and Kasie Myers, ornamental horticulture consumer use (fifth).

Lakeland High: Kacie Pounds, Harvest of Change (fifth)

Lake Gibson High: Andy Mason, Jessica Little, Farah Stiltner and Debra Yehle, Florida Leadership Adventures Scholarship winners; Kyle Fox, outdoor recreation (first); Andy Mason, Harvest of Change event (fifth)

Lake Gibson Middle: team of Joanna Clark and Chyanne Matthews, ornamental horticulture landscape (third).
