The 15th Annual Middle School E-Team Academic Tourney semifinals and finals will be held Tuesday, March 18 and Wednesday, March 19 at the Lakeland Center, 701 West Lime Street. The public is invited and there is no charge to attend as teams of sixth, seventh and eighth grade students will represent their schools and test their knowledge of economic terms, language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. The semifinals will be held March 18, 4 to 6:30 p.m., at the Lakeland Center. The top six schools in the semifinals advance to the finals to be held March 19, 4 to 6:30 p.m., also at the Lakeland Center. The Florida Diagnostic & Learning Resources System and the Center for Autism and Related Disorders will hold a free workshop for parents and guardians of special needs individuals.
This workshop will include discussion about social services and agencies that assist special needs individuals. The workshop will include information about the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Agency for Persons with Disabilities and the Social Security Administration.

The Polk County Spelling Bee will be held Thursday, March 27, 1 p.m., at George Jenkins High, 6000 Lakeland Highlands Road, Lakeland. Middle school students will compete and the Polk winner advances to the Scripps National Spelling Bee on May 29 and 30 in Washington, D.C. The national bee is broadcast live on national television.
