The public is invited to Sikes Elementary’s Celebrating Diversity event on Thursday, February 28 from 5 to 6 p.m. The event includes multi-cultural meals and foods, music, cultural exhibits, family activities, door prizes and a performance by a dance team from Lakeland High’s Latino Club. Otis Anthony, the school district’s senior director of diversity management, will also give a presentation on the Civil Rights Bill of 1974. The public is invited to attend high school concert and symphonic band performances in the Florida Bandmasters Association Music Performance Assessment event to be held Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8 at Lake Region High. High schools will perform continuously over the two days and there is no charge to attend. The public is invited to attend middle school concert and symphonic band performances in the Florida Bandmasters Association Music Performance Assessment event to be held Thursday, March 13, Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15 at Winter Haven High. Middle schools will perform continuously over the three days and there is no charge to attend. The public is invited to a Tuesday, March 18, 2008 sales tax oversight committee meeting held at the school district’s administrative office, 1915 South Floral Avenue, Bartow. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in the superintendent’s conference room.
The sales tax oversight committee, composed of community members, was formed by the school district after voters approved a 2003 referendum authorizing an additional ½-cent sales tax for school construction.
