U.S. Census Webinar, Private Colleges Presentation, Middle And High School Band Concerts

U.S. Census Webinar

Superintendent Gail F. McKinzie, Ph.D. will participate in a 2010 U.S. Census Webinar coordinated by the Board of County Commissioners. A panel of experts will discuss how being counted in the 2010 Census will affect funding for services, including education. The census will also affect Congressional representation and future planning for communities.

Other Webinar participants include county and municipal officials and a representative from the U.S. Census. The Webinar will be held 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m, Thursday, March 4. This Webinar is free, requires no pre-registration and allows viewers/listeners to ask specific questions about the 2010 Census.

High School Band Concerts

The public is invited to high school band concerts on March 5 and 6 at Lakeland’s Tenoroc High. The concerts are from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, March 5 and 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 6. There is no cost to attend. Tenoroc High is located at 4905 Saddle Creek Road, Lakeland. High school concert and symphonic bands will perform in 30-minute intervals on both days. The concerts are judged by a state panel and the bands receive their annual state assessment and rating based on the performances. Information: (863) 647-4729.

Private Colleges And Universities Presentation

The guidance department at Lakeland’s George Jenkins High is hosting a presentation on student opportunities at Florida’s private colleges and universities. There is no charge to attend and parents and students of all public, private, charter and home schools are invited. Information presented will be geared to parents and their students currently in their junior, sophomore and freshman years in high school. The presentation is 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 10 in George Jenkins High’s auditorium, 6000 Lakeland Highlands Road. Guest speaker will be Brent Benner, director of undergraduate admissions at the University of Tampa.

Middle School Band Concerts

The public is invited to middle school band concerts on March 18, 19 and 20 at Winter Haven High. The concerts are from 3:30 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on both Thursday, March 18 and Friday, March 19. The concerts are from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 20. There is no cost to attend. Winter Haven High is located at 600 Sixth Street SE. Middle school concert and symphonic bands will perform in 30-minute intervals on all three days.
