Florida Vocal Association Concerts

The public is invited to attend Florida Vocal Association concerts performed by middle and high school choral students. There is no charge to attend and the concerts will be held Friday, February 22 and Saturday, February 23 at the First Presbyterian Church, 175 Lake Hollingsworth Drive, Lakeland. The concerts on February 22 will be from 9:45 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the concerts on February 23 will be from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Information: (863) 647-4727.

Workshop For Parents, Guardians Of Special Needs Individuals

The Florida Diagnostic & Learning Resources System and the Center for Autism and Related Disorders will hold a free workshop for parents and guardians of special needs individuals titled “Social Skills and Sexuality 101.”

This workshop will include discussion on teaching safety, appropriate social behavior and interaction with others. The workshop will discuss ways for parents to address uncomfortable topics and situations.

The workshop will be held Friday, February 29, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Palm Room of the Jim Miles Professional Development Center, 5204 U.S. Highway 98, Lakeland.

History Fair

The public is invited to the 9th Annual History Fair to be held Friday, February 29, 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m at the Polk County Historical Museum, 100 East Main Street, Bartow. There is no charge to attend as middle and high school students will display projects in historical research. The fair also includes video documentaries and live reenactments and performances. All-County Orchestra

The public is invited to a free orchestra concert performed by middle and high school students. The concert is Friday, February 29, 7:30 p.m., at Branscomb Auditorium on the campus of Florida Southern College, 111 Lake Hollingsworth Drive, Lakeland. Information: (863) 647-4727.

Surplus Textbooks, Library Books

The Polk County Public Schools are offering outdated, surplus textbooks and library books to the public at no charge. The books will be displayed and available Monday, March 3 and Tuesday, March 4, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, at the Jim Miles Professional Development Center warehouse, 5204 U.S. Highway 98, Lakeland.
