The school board will meet in a special session on Thursday, January 31, 8:30 a.m., to discuss the internal funds compliance audit report and other school board business. The meeting will be held in the superintendent’s conference room of the district administrative office, 1915 South Floral Avenue, Bartow. The public is invited to view student science projects at the Regional Science Fair on Saturday, February 2 at the First Baptist Church of Bartow, 410 East Church Street, Bartow. Middle and high school science projects will be displayed in categories that include botany, chemistry, engineering, environmental science, health and medicine and physics. Public viewing is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. An awards ceremony begins at 7 p.m., February 2. There is no charge to attend. Information: Rebecca Braaten, (863) 534-0562.
Tenoroc High, Polk’s newest high school opening in August 2008, will hold a student/parent information meeting on Tuesday, February 5. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Church Without Walls, 777 Carpenter’s Way, Lakeland.
Tenoroc’s administrative team will make presentations on the school’s curriculum and other issues at the meeting. Topics to be discussed include: honors and advanced placement classes, the school’s ninth grade academy, career academies, extracurricular activities and athletics. The school’s mascot will also be announced at this meeting.
Tenoroc High will open for students in August 2008 at 4905 Saddle Creek Road, Lakeland. Tenoroc’s principal will be Ernest Joe, previously the principal at Auburndale High.
Attendance zones for Tenoroc High were established in October 2007.

The school board will meet in a planning retreat to evaluate and update strategic plan goals. The planning retreat will be held on Thursday, February 28 and Friday, February 29 and will begin both days at 9 a.m. The planning retreat will be held at the Jim Miles Professional Development Center, 5204 U.S. Highway 98 South, Lakeland.
