Lakeland Schools Bring Music, Song And Dance Show To George Jenkins High

International Fiddlers Perform As Part Of Music Education Outreach

The Lakeland Schools Orchestra Association, a booster organization supporting the strings programs at George Jenkins High, Lakeland Highlands Middle and Southwest Middle, is bringing the music, song and dance group Barrage to George Jenkins High on Saturday, February 2, 2008.

Barrage is an international performing group whose shows offer a diverse fusion of world music influences, layered vocal arrangements and pulsating modern beats and rhythms. Barrage features six violinists/vocalists, a drummer, bass player and guitarist.

Their appearance at Jenkins is part of the group’s music education outreach and is meant to inspire and excite string students in an intimate environment. The performance on February 2 is at 7 p.m. in the George Jenkins High auditorium, 6000 Lakeland Highlands Road, Lakeland. Tickets are being sold to the public. Ticket prices are: Adults, $15; senior citizens, $10; middle and high school students, $10 and elementary students, $5.

Barrage began in Canada in 1996 and has performed in 17 countries. Their performances have aired on the PBS television network in the United States, the CBC in Canada and on the BBC in the United Kingdom.
