Magnet and Choice School applications are now being accepted through October 31, 2008. Students applying during this period must at least be attending kindergarten. Click here to apply.

Applications for the current school year will continue to be accepted through January 17, 2008.
Open Enrollment for the 2008-2009 School Year will be April 2008-January 2009

A distinctive theme and/or other program feature characterize Magnet and Choice schools. Magnet and Choice schools are schools of choice that provide the standard required curriculum of general education to students while using special learning themes, such as science and technology. These themes serve to attract students to the schools.

Charter schools are public schools operating under a performance contract or “charter.” The charter allows the school to operate under defined rules and regulations. As part of the contract between the charter school and the sponsor (the school board), charter schools are held strictly accountable for academic and financial results.

Charter Schools in Florida shall be guided by the following principals: Meet high standards of student achievement while providing parents flexibility to choose among diverse educational opportunities within the state’s public school system; promote enhanced academic success and financial efficiency by aligning responsibility with accountability; provide parents with sufficient information on whether their child is reading at grade level and whether the child gains at least a year’s worth of learning for every year spent in the charter school. Charter schools are fully recognized as public schools.
