These are tutoring services that take place outside the regular school day.
The services currently provide extra academic help in the areas of reading and mathematics.
Students who are eligible for free or reduced lunch AND attend Title I schools that have not
made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for at least 2 consecutive years are eligible to apply.
Schools Required to Offer SES
If the number of students requesting services are high or if funds are limited, services may be prioritized for the students with the greatest academic need as determined by assessment scores.
A letter and application will be mailed to student's homes prior to the beginning of school.
The cost of the Tutoring Services is paid with Title I funds.
Each year Title I is required to set aside a percentage of its funds to pay for these services.
Service providers apply to the Florida Department of Education (FDOE). After a review process, the FDOE sends a list of all approved providers for the state. Our district will enter into contracts with providers that have expressed an interest in serving the students of Polk County.
Parents will be able to meet with SES Providers at Several Tutoring Fairs held throughout the County. Parents will have the opportunity to see the services provided and talk to the Providers to determine which service best meets the needs of their student.
The tutoring services may be provided in the student's school or at another approved location. This question is best answered by the provider at the provider fairs.
Students may be enrolled for tutoring services at the beginning of the year.
