Publishes and revises the Polk County Schools Developmental Guidance Plan K – 12 in accordance with state statute.
Conducts eight to ten seminars for approximately 1,000 participants during August and September at various locations throughout Polk County.
Conducts eight to ten seminars annually for parents, students, and others during January and February at various locations throughout Polk County.
Provides professional development for Guidance Counselors and College/Career Specialists regarding current trends in school counseling, career guidance programs, online guidance program implementation and other DOE and/or legislative mandated issues and topics, and scholarships and financial aid. Opportunity for earning of inservice points is provided.
The Guidance Services Specialist serves as the district contact for all aspects of the Bright Futures Scholarship Program which include: professional development, processing, troubleshooting, investigating misadvisement, maintaining community service documents for Florida Academic Scholar Award, securing and maintaining security codes for DOE/Bright Futures access for counselors, verifying for Home Education students, updating the Bright Futures section of the Student Progression Plan.
Serves as the district contact for verification and certification of specific scholarships administered by the State of Florida and processed through the Florida Student Financial Aid Application.
Coordinates the Annual District College Fair as established by the Florida School and College Relations Committee’s official Florida College Tour.
Collects and posts information for the legislatively mandated electronic District Guidance Report sent to the Commissioner of Education annually.
Publishes a handbook for eighth grade students, parents, and counselors to assist with high school planning.
